
The QJP scholarship is given in memory of Qualan Joseph Powell, who in 2020 was killed by a hit and run driver. Qualan is the father of four children and the grandson of our founder. Qualan was committed to supporting the educational empowerment of youth and was the first to generously support the BNUEI vision.

Founded in 2023, the Business Not As Usual Entrepreneur Institute Inc., Board of Directors established the QJP scholarship to be presented at the annual Lunch for a Cause Fundraiser. The QJP scholarship is to provide BNUEI teens and alumni with additional financial assistance. BNUEI participants who are engaging in cultivating a successful pathway in a career or as an entrepreneur. One whose is attending or planning to attend a higher level of education that will assist in supporting the growth of their full potential and their future endeavors.

Shanai Mayo is a BNUEI alumna who has completed six Teen Entrepreneur Series over 3 years, She is a junior at Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. Shanai is pursuing a major in Biology and a minor in Spanish. Her goal is to become physical therapist for a professional sport team.

Shanai Mayo earned first place in the BNUEI Teen Entrepreneur Pitch Competition and was honored with the Boston Mayor's Extraordinary Woman Award in recognition of her outstanding community leadership.

Shanai humbly accepted the scholarship, stating, "I benefited greatly from being a participant in this program, and I encourage parents to enroll their teens in the next Teen Entrepreneur Series."

Mara Brandao was 15 years old when she joined the BNUEI Teen Entrepreneur Series. A very quiet but serious young lady, determined to learn all that BNUEI had to offer. Mara attended 2 series and faithfully traveled to Boston from Brockton each week. Mara embraced the instructors 'teachings and stated that the "Money Matters/financial Literacy Series really impact her life. Mara Brandao is a biology major, attending Howard University. Mara has a strong passion for clinical research and public health equity. Her post undergraduate plan is to attend medical school to be a physician.

Viviana Wallace is a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College, PA. She is majoring in Neuroscience on the premedical track. She has professional experience as a peer mentor and assistant tutor at the middle school level. She is a BNUEI alumna who attended the TES at the age of 15.
